What We Do
Employers need a vigorous platform to assist them in a meaningful way. They need a voice that will do for them what COSATU does for unions and their members. AFEO strives to be that voice for Employers operating fishing vessels.
AFEO represents and supplies advisory services to various fishing sectors. AFEO is focused on assisting Employers with Labour Law issues, collective bargaining and provides a comprehensive Labour Law service. Our services are available on a needs only basis to accommodate smaller and seasonal fishing operators.
AFEO strives to provide to its members a full range of services pertaining to labour related matters. As a non-profitable organisation, it is intent on performing its role in accordance with the spirit of the Labour Relations Act, and to ensure that where possible, the needs of its members are addressed, thereby promoting sound labour relations in the workplace.
Who We Are?
AFEO initially focussed on businesses with less than 100 employees. However because of the need from bigger enterprises it was inevitable to consolidate certain fishing sectors and AFEO finality changed to be an all-inclusive vessel owner organisation.
Our History
AFEO was founded in 2013 and officially registered with the Department of Labour in terms of section 96(7) of the Labour Relations Act, 1995. It was formed after it was recognised that many Employers operating fishing vessels were increasingly vulnerable to complex labour laws. These laws placed additional burden on Employers who lack the knowledge, time and expertise to deal with them.
